In the case of a clamping device having two clamping blocks with bearing surfaces arranged in a common plane, the outer end faces (25, 26), facing away from one another, of the clamping blocks (1, 2) are inclined upwardly inwards, so that the distance between their edges delimiting the bearing surface (3) is greater than the distance at their edges (27, 28) remote from the bearing surface. The clamping blocks are spanned by a yoke (10) which serves as clamping member, is supported on the clamping blocks via compression springs (13, 14) and has at its ends projections (29, 30) which face the clamping blocks and whose inner faces have the same inclination as the outer end faces (25, 26) of the bearing blocks. By means of a screw clamp or the like, the yoke can be pressed onto the clamping blocks so that the clamping blocks, on the one hand, are pressed via the springs onto the surface of the workpieces and, on the other hand, are brought closer to one another via the oblique faces (27, 28) of the yoke and the oblique end faces (25, 26), in which process they carry along and press together the workpieces (41, 42). <IMAGE>
