<p>The reciprocably supported member or tool (38) has its stroke adjustably located so that it can be used to drive its support (19), if desired, even while it is simultaneously impacting a work surface. Also, the member (38) may be carried on a conventional mobile carrier (300) as its support. The tool (38) will reciprocate away from the work surface, and work- or debris-removing apparatus (52) is provided in one embodiment. The drive for reciprocating the member may comprise a combustion engine (42), and the debris removal apparatus (52) may use the combustion gases of the engine (42) as a flush medium for the same. The tool (38) may be rotated in either direction while being reciprocated. The member may be used for horizontal or vertical impact drilling, pile driving, or merely propulsion.</p> |
