The invention relates to a pneumatically controlled paint spray gun for automatically spraying liquid substances, in particular coating substances, the spray jet being atomized and formed by means of compressed air. The object of the invention is to improve the economy in terms of material and the mass-power ratio of the paint spray gun so that when it is used on spraying devices or spraying robots their optimum productivity is made possible. For this purpose, the design of the pneumatically controlled paint spraying gun is to be changed in such a way that the piston-cylinder dimensions of the control part, which are not freely selectable, can be reduced. According to the invention, the object is achieved in that the drive force of the piston is transmitted to the air and paint valve in a ratio greater than 1 : 1, by means of a swivellable lever. This results in a relatively small diameter of the piston, as a result of which the shape of the housing is favourably influenced. In addition, the reduced friction of the smaller piston has positive effects on the smooth running of the system and thus on the switching speed.
