PURPOSE:To produce the titled compound which is a vitamin K2 for pharmaceutical use and useful as a hemostatic agent, etc., easily in high efficiency, by culturing a microbial strain capable of producing menaquinone-4 and separating the secreted menaquinone-4 from the culture liquid. CONSTITUTION:Flavobacterium aquatile No.238-7 (FERM P-8113) which is a microbial strain capable of producing menaquinone-6 is used as a mother strain and is subjected to repeated mutation and selection to obtain Flavobacterium aquatile K3-15 (FERM P-8116) as a strain capable of producing menaquinone-4. The strain is cultured in a medium and the menaquinone secreted from the microbial cell is separated from the culture liquid to obtain the objective compound. |
