Method to determine position of edge of rolled metal band

The method involves using at least one proximity sensor (2-8) to measure the distance (h) between the proximity sensor from the metal band (1). The measuring area (9-15) of the proximity sensor is not completely covered by the metal band. The degree of overlap of the proximity sensor by the metal band is calculated using the distance measured by the proximity sensor and a value of the actual distance between the proximity sensor from the metal band. The degree of overlap is used to determine the position (P) of the edge of the metal band.
