PURPOSE:To allow smooth power transmission by making the size of a ball at the idle end side of a shaft member smaller than that of others in a drive shaft comprised of a sleeve member coupled removably and the shaft member both being connected together through multiple balls as capable of transmitting power. CONSTITUTION:An expandable drive shaft is comprised of a sleeve member 1 connected to an input shaft side and a shaft member 2 connected to an output shaft side, an both members 1, 2 are connected to each other as capable of transmitting power through balls 6a-6c contained in ball storage grooves 4, 5 formed on the inner and outer surfaces respectively. Spacers 7 are inserted between the balls 6a-6c and a stopper 8 is coupled at the end of the storage groove 5. In this case, the ball 6a located at the idle end of the shaft member 2 is formed smaller than other balls 6b, 6c. Accordingly, the drag phenomenon against the grooves 4, 5 can be prevented from occurring when the ball 6a is blocked its rolling between the spacer 7 and stopper 8 in case the shaft member 2 is moved to the right. |
