ERROR CORRECTION APPARATUS AND METHOD

An apparatus and method for correcting data groups within a data stream to form a corrected data stream. Each group of the stream is applied to register and simultaneously to error detection and correction apparatus. When no error is detected the data groups of the stream are transferred to a data group destination When an error is detected, the data group containing the error is replaced by a corrected data group and subsequent data groups of that stream are passed through the error detection and correction apparatus even when no correction is necessary. The process is repeated when a new stream of data groups is present.
