PURPOSE:To improve the response speed, by increasing the length of the edge of an EC material layer on an electrode. CONSTITUTION:Minute cut parts are formed in a normal pattern to increase the length of an apparent edge, thus enhancing the response speed. For example, slit-shaped cuts 11 are formed. When the number of slits is increased, the length of the edge is extended easily and can be extended several times, and the difference of the coloring speed is not generated between parts near the outside circumference and parts near the center. Cut parts of the EC material are formed with such width, length, diameter, etc. that the visual recognizability is not lowered when the EC element is placed in the position where it is seen, and these cut parts are determined properly in accordance with the pattern because they are changed by the size of the display pattern. It is desirable that the increase of the length of the edge due to these cut parts is >=50%. As the EC material, WO3 is representative. |
