Immersible sampler chamber for liquid metal - has two half-shells held together at top by leaf spring with ends bent inwardly upwards

The sampling unit for taking a liquid metal sample, comprises a chamber with inlet, and consisting of two releasable (metal) parts which, during immersion in the melt, are held together by an approximately U-shaped spring bracket whose two sides bear on the (flat) outer faces of the respective parts. At least one but pref. both (as shown) sides of this spring has at least its end bent through 180-270 deg. such that this end points (upwards) towards the central portion of the spring which lies against the chamber when fitted. The spring may be a steel leaf spring 0.3-0.8mm, pref. 0.5mm thick, and the said angle may be 210-270 deg., pref. 237-243 deg. whilst the bend may be round. Used as immersible sample for liquid metal. The spring is easily applied and reliably holds the two parts together during immersion in the melt whilst being readily removable after withdrawal.
