PURPOSE:To synthesize an artificial single crystal of beryl having high quality, by controlling the speed at which the crystal grows by using vitrified or sintered raw materials and quartz. CONSTITUTION:Powders of raw materials added with BeO, Al2O3, SiO2 exhibiting roughly the compsn. ratio of beryl and, if necessary, coloring materials such as Cr2O3, NiO, CsNO3 or the like are mixed with flux such as Li2MoO4, MoO3, V2O5, Li2OH or the like and the mixture is heated to form a molten salt. An artificial single crystal of beryl is synthesized or grown by using such molten salt. If such molten salt is used, some inclusions are produced in the initial stage of growth but the subsequent production thereof is obviated and the grood single crystal is obtained. |
