PURPOSE:To enhance efficiency, by manufacturing a steel caisson with such draft in a dock that the caisson can be towed out of the dock and by thereafter towing the caisson to the sea, anchoring it and then assembling remaining parts on the caisson. CONSTITUTION:The lower section of a steel caisson 1 is assembled in a dock 2 to have such draft that the lower section can be towed out of the dock. After the assembly, water is powred in the dock 2 to float the caisson's lower section and tow it out. The towed-out section is put on a semi-submerged barge 4. The barge is then gradually flated upwards to complete the loading of the caisson's lower section. The section is then towed to the sea and coupled by an anchoring chain 6 to a sinker 7 placed on the sea bottom. Remaining blocks 9 are sequentially supplied and assembled to complete the caisson 1. According to this method, the caisson 1 is accurately and efficiently manufactured. |
