The rail track assembly (10), for a railway permanent way, has the rails (2) fitted to the sleepers (1) on a ballast bed (3). A carrier plate (4), which supports the ballast (3), is of a material with bitumen bonding to act as a carrier and a ground seal. The carrier plate has a center peak between the rails, sloping downwards and away to the outer sides for drainage. The carrier (4) has a thickness at the longitudinal edges of 0.2-0.7 m and pref. 0.4 m. The carrier (4) is of recycled materials or contaminated aggregates.
