PURPOSE:To obtain a liquid crystal light valve element capable of freely selecting reading light and writing light and having high sensitivity and good sensitivity to red, by forming an amorphous silicon layer doped with boron, a light shading layer, and a liquid crystal layer in succession between two transparent electrodes. CONSTITUTION:An amorphous silicon layer 4 doped with 10-400ppm boron, a light shading layer 3, and a liquid crystal layer 2 are formed in succession between two transparent electrodes 1, 1 to fabricate a liquid crystal light valve element. A dielectric mirror layer 6 may be formed between the layer 2 and the layer 3 in order to make a display easy to see. The transparent electrodes 1 to be used is prepared by forming a transparent conductive film made of indium oxide, tin oxide, or the like on a transparent base made of glass, plastic, or the like. A dynamic scattering mode liquid crystal, a hybrid electric field effect mode, a phase transfer mode liquid crystals, etc. are used for the liquid crystal layer 2. |
