<p>The invention relates to a process for heat treating, particularly drying, running lengths of material, in which gaseous or vaporous treatment medium is repeatedly blown onto the length of material during the entire treatment, to effect the treatment, and is withdrawn from the length of material after each treatment process. A reduction in the energy consumption, particularly in dryers, is to be achieved by the invention, by better use of the energy contained in the exhaust air of chiefly advanced treatment regions, in that treatment medium withdrawn from the length of material from advanced treatment regions is further fed, before removal from the whole treatment, or before being fed again to the length of material after reheating, to length portions of material lying further ahead for a pretreatment, preferably for pre-drying of the length of material. <IMAGE></p> |
