The invention relates to a process and a device for carrying out the process for the continuous winding of wires, especially at a high running speed of the wire. The winding operation takes place by means of a rotating flyer. As soon as the reel is filled, the wound wire package is lowered, together with the lower reel flange, by means of a lifting device. The upper reel flange and the core remain in the winding position, so that the flyer can immediately wind further wire onto the core (3). After the wire package is removed from the lower reel flange, the latter is moved into its initial position again, so that the next winding operation can be carried out again on a regular reel consisting of the two reel flanges and of the core. <IMAGE>
