The brake valve for pneumatic brake systems of motor vehicles, especially road vehicles, has a housing of at least two parts, the lower widened housing section (6) accommodating the usual valve device and, where necessary, piston device for controlling at least one brake pressure, and the upper, thin-walled, tapered housing section (5) designed as a sheet metal body (7) accommodating the pot-like stepped piston (16) with the thrust piece (20) supported by the rubber spring (21). In the assembled state the upper, tapered housing section (5) of the brake valve is introduced into the break (2) of a console (1) fixed to the vehicle, so that a part of the brake valve is located inside the console (1). In this way the installation space for the brake valve required beneath the console (1) is correspondingly reduced in height. <IMAGE>
