For sorting particles of differing densities, these are suspended in a liquid, the density of which is chosen such that it lies within the density distribution of the particles. The suspension is passed in laminar flow into a standing ultrasound field with nodal surfaces, the flow direction running parallel to the nodal surfaces. After leaving the ultrasound field, the flow is divided according to the position of the nodal surfaces and the pressure maxima of the ultrasound field.
