The invention relates to an electronic device for installation in motor vehicles with a taximeter. One or more capacitively operating sensors detect the free/occupied state of the passenger seat or seats and a measuring sensor detects the stationary/moving state of the motor vehicle. An electronic central processor unit evaluates the signals and displays them by means of a numerical display and diodes. It is possible to inhibit the supply of fuel in a special switching position if the taximeter is not switched on in the occupied state. The device is protected against tampering.
