The subject matter of the invention is an arrangement for masking errors in a digital video signal which, depending on the gravity of the error, selects one of different error masking methods. In detail, an adaptive estimation (horizontal or vertical averaging) of faulty pixels is selected when all pixels needed for such an estimation are free of faults. If this is not the case, a four-point averaging is used. If this is not possible, either, a vertical averaging and, finally, a horizontal averaging, is used.
