The building element (10) is funnel-shaped and has loadbearing side walls and visible walls (24, 25). The building element (10) is open at the top and at the bottom. The bottom opening (35) is large enough for filling material (46) poured into the building element (10) from the top to be able to run out without getting stuck. To produce a wall (40), the building elements (10) are stacked, in a first step, offset one above the other on a foundation strip (41). This produces vertical continuous funnel channels (45) arranged next to one another. These channels are filled from the top with filling material (46) in a second, independent, step. As soon as the building elements (10) of a funnel channel (45) have thereby successively filled up, starting from the bottom, a cone (47) forms above each building element (10), which cone blocks the outlet opening (35) of the next building element (10) up.
