A tower crane has a tower (4) which is mounted on a crane underframe (1) by means of a horizontal axis and which carries an articulated trolley jib (9) which consists of at least two sections (10, 11) linked to one another, a rope tackle line (rope 21) which starts from a winch (20) being provided for lifting loads and for at least one assembly operation. The rope tackle line is run over a deflection pulley (14) at the free end (13) of the jib (9) and over a trolley (25) movable along the jib by means of a trolley travel rope. So that the single-rope technique can also be used if at least two sections cannot be swung out and connected to one another on the ground, the deflection pulley (14) is releasably attached to the free end (13) of the jib (9) and can be shifted to the section (10) of the jib (9) linked to the tower (4). <IMAGE>
