PURPOSE:To cut a workpiece in reference to its center holes without using any chucks by a method wherein the workpiece having center holes at its both ends is fixed to a lathe by utilizing those center holes. CONSTITUTION:A center hole at one end of the workpiece is fitted to a center member 3 while the center hole of the other end of the workpiece is supported by the center fixed to the tail stock of a lathe, and the workpiece fixed to the tail stock is moved forward along with the center. When the advancing and retracting members 6 of each of the claws 5 are pushed against the supporting member 7, the supporting member 7 is inclined in response to a degree of strength of the pressing force and each of the claws 5 is forcedly and uniformly pressed against the end surface of the workpiece without having any relation with the finished condition of the end portions of the workpiece. |
