The device for reliably starting each discharge lamp with low or high-frequency voltage uses a current limiting choke(2), discharge lamps(3a)(3B), a block inductor(7), and a boosting inductor(41). The high-frequency, high-voltage output from a high-voltage generator is supplied for the each discharge lamp in parallel through the each condensor; the low frequency voltage from the low frequency AC power supplier is supplied for the discharge lamps in series.
