The switch (11) is provided in the appliance such as a cooker with hot plates, an oven and control knobs (13), to connect the loads of the appliance such as the hot plates and oven. The switch (11) is electrically connected in series between all the loads and the mains connection point. The control knob (13) has a rotating shaft (12) with a cam (17). The cam surface has two parts arranged at different radial distances separated by a radially extending rim. A locking plate (19) has a corresp. rim arranged such that it cooperates with the rim of the cam (17) through a spring mechanism. In a given position of rotation of the knob (13), in which the switch (11) is open, the two rims cooperated to lock the knob (13) in this position. An operating part (19f,20) is also provided. When this is operated it moves the rim of the locking plate (19) against the force of the spring away from engagement with the cam rim. This enables the knob (13) to be turned out of the locked position. ADVANTAGE - Provides safety function against unintentional operation of control knob. Locking mechanism is provided in main switch so other knobs can be operated even when main switch is locked. |
