<p>An optical fibre transmission cable includes at least one longitudinally extending glass fibre/resin reinforcing strand which is under permanent tension. The strand has a modulus of (4-6)x 10 power 6 psi, an ultimate tensile strength of 70,000 to 200,000 psi, and a flex modulus of (1.0-5.7) x 10 power 6 psi. Pref. it is 60-80% by wt. of glass fibres and the resin is pref. a polyester. The strand being under tension allows any elongation forces before they are applied to the optical fibres.</p> |
