Appts. for buff blanching peanuts - with parallel driven abrasive rollers in elongate housing angularly adjustable for flow control

Shelled peanuts are buff blanched in an appts. which has an elongate housing with a feed and a discharge end. A pair of rollers are rotatably mounted in spaced, parallel relationship longitudinally within the housing, the roller gap being smaller than the average peanut size. The feed end of each roller is smooth while the remainder has a grit coating. The housing is mounted for angular adjustment about two mutually perpendicular axes to control the blanching action. Longitudinal vertical baffles extend parallel and generally tangential to each roller to form a longitudinal channel for directing the flow of peanuts from one end of the housing to the other. The rollers are mounted in offset relationship, with one partially above the other. A guide directs peanuts fed into the appts. onto the top portion and smooth end of the lowermost roller. The appts. is used to produce a blanched peanut having a textured surface suitable for coating.
