PURPOSE:To prevent the occurrence of a hazard, e.g., toxication trouble, due to CO, by a method wherein gradient of an increase in a room temperature is detected, the size of a room is calculated from a gradient value, a timer cycle responding to the computed size of a room is decided, and an alarm expediting ventilation of a room is reported. CONSTITUTION:If, when a combustion amount of a burner is identical, a heater is used in a wide room, a rise in a room temperature is slow, and DELTAt is small. In the case of a small room, a room temperature is suddenly raised, and gradient DELTAt is increased to a high value. A computing part 26 computes the gradient DELTAt has the size of a room containing a ventilation rate. A timer part 27 sets a timer time depending upon the size of a room determined by the computing part 26. When combustion is continued for a timer time, an alarm part 28 reports ventilation. Simultaneously with an alarming output from the alarm part 28, a safety timer 30 is actuated. If no ventilation is made until a timer is completed, a safety shut off part 31 is actuated, and a safety valve 10 is closed to stop combustion. When it is decided that ventilation is made before completion of the safety timer 30, the safety shut off part is not operated, combustion is continued, and a timer part 27 starts counting again.
