METHOD FOR IMPROVING CAPACITY OF CONTINUOUS CASTING

PURPOSE:To increase casting capacity without affecting quality, by controlling the ratio of the flow of cooling water between the narrow and wide surfaces of an ingot to be cast. CONSTITUTION:The flow of secondary cooling water is properly selected and controlled in accordance with the flow rate ratio between the narrow and wide surfaces of the ingot set beforehand with the cooling pattern of the ingot under passage through a secondary cooling zone in continuous casting of molten steel. The segregation line at the median of the ingot is controlled to a desired pattern, whereby the permissible flattening ratio of the ingot is expanded. The density of the water flow in the short and wide surfaces is thus controlled adequately.
