Alkenylzirconium reagents useful for prostaglandin analog synthesis

Alkenylzirconium reagents of the general structural formula IX, <IMAGE> IX are useful in the syntheses of prostaglandin analogs. In the preceding structural formula J is bromo or chloro, R1 is hydrogen, methyl, ethyl, vinyl, 1-propenyl, or cyclopropyl, R4 is alkyl of 2-7 carbon atoms, and R3 is a protecting group such as tetrahydropyranyl, 1-ethoxyethyl, or C1-C4-trialkylsilyl.
