A device for hanging up garments (7) has a hanger support part (27) for attaching a clothes hanger (5) and shoulder holders (33, 35) which are adjustable relative to the hanger support part (27). Said shoulder holders can be moved from a release position into a holding position and vice versa. In the release position, a garment (7) can be hung up or removed. In the holding position, the shoulder holders (33, 35) grip around the shoulder parts of a hung-up garment (7) and partially around the clothes hanger (5) and hold the garment (7) firmly. Furthermore, there is a lock switch (43) with which the shoulder holders (33, 35) can be locked in the holding position and, at the same time, an alarm device can be switched on. The device makes it possible to prevent hung-up garments being stolen or mixed up. <IMAGE>
