A group of fuel elements for a water-boiler reactor has a base component (2') whose upper quadratic part is surrounded by the lower section of a fuel channel (1) with quadratic cross-section. As a result of aging, a gap (14) through which a leak can occur forms between the fuel channel and the base component.
