<p>A closure (10) for a container (12) with a neck (14) and an external helical thread (18) formed on the neck (14) includes an upper wall (22) and a skirt (24) formed integrally with and extending generally downwardly from the upper wall (22). An internal helical thread (30) on the skirt (24) is asymmetrical in cross section and sealingly engages the external helical thread (18). A first annular seal (32) sealingly engages the outer surface (16) of the neck portion (14) and a second annular seal (50) sealingly engages an inner surface (64) of the neck (14). A thickness (T) of the neck (14) is initially greater than a distance (D) between the first and second annular seals before installation of the closure (10). A third annular seal (70) on a lower surface of the upper wall (22) sealingly engages an upper edge (72) of the neck portion. A security ring (26) is frangibly connected to the skirt and includes tabs (88) that prevent removal of the security ring (26) from the container (12).</p> |
