PURPOSE:To shorten a length of a soot blower, by a method wherein, in a device which performs an operation to blow away soot by the jet of steam through a lance tube inserted into a heat exchanger, a driving shaft of a pinion gear for moving the lance tube is supported in a spot positioned backwardly of the center of gravity of the driving shaft. CONSTITUTION:In a soot blower with a motor 11 run by means of a starting signal, a pinion gear 12 spins through the medium of a gear box 5, and the engagement of the pinion gear with a rack 13 causes inserting of a lance tube 3 into a heat exchanger through a wall 14. With a valve 1 opened, steam serving as a jetting medium flows in the lance tube 3 through a feed pipe 2, and is jetted through a nozzle 4 to perform an operation to blow away soot. In which case, a guide roller 7, guided between upper and lower guides 9 and 10, and the pinion gear 12 engaging the rack 13 are mounted in the gear box 5 in a manner that they are disposed backwardly of the position of the center of gravity of the gear box 5. In order to facilitate said engagement, the gear box 5 is formed in an inverted L shape which bends backwardly of a soot blower. |
