The hinge for spectacles comprises a hinge knuckle (1) which is rigidly attached to the frame (3) and on which the articulation foot (11) of the other hinge knuckle pivots, this foot carrying the side (12). The hinge knuckle (1) extends in a direction generally perpendicular to the principal plane of the frame (3) and has a housing (4) for a spring (5) and a ball (8). The latter bears against a surface portion (15a) of the foot (11) and exerts on the latter a force tending to keep the front end of the side (12) in contact with the hinge knuckle (1). The side (12) is elastically held in the bent-back position by the ball (8) pressed into the notch (14). <IMAGE>
