PURPOSE: A system and method for directing network boot is provided to access a remote file of a computer network. CONSTITUTION: A client acquires the bootstrap form a remote server(202). When the bootstrap is loaded to the client, the bootstrap acquires a configuration file from the remote server such as a remote TFTP(Trivial File Transfer Protocol) server(204). The remote server corresponding to the client is determined according to the configuration file(206). The bootstrap acquires an operating system image from the remote server(208).
