PURPOSE:To measure the distance between automobiles exactly by detecting the image of a front vehicle on a road with two detectors from visible light or the like and comparing both images electrically. CONSTITUTION:An image sensor 10 on a left side detects an image with a lens 9 of a left optical system and outputs the voltage corresponding to the brightness in each picture element. An image sensor 12 on a right side outputs the voltage similarly. The output analog voltages from both sensors 10, 12 are converted respectively to digital values by A/D converters 13, 14 on left and right sides. The digital values are stored respectively in memories 15, 16 on left and right sides. A computer 17 reads the stored values, calculates the distance on the principle of triangulation by comparing the characteristics of the right and left images and displays the result thereof on a display 18. |
