PURPOSE:To improve the picture quality and to reduce the capacity of a buffer memory, by switching a dot matrix size forming one picture element depending on the printing size. CONSTITUTION:The amount of basic picture information read in the buffer memory 39 is constant at all times regardless of the size of matrix, and since the printing size is changed by outputting a shift signal SFT based on a signal RSIZ designating the matrix size of one picture element applied to a pattern generator 41, the capacity of the buffere memory 39 has only to be a minimum storage capacity in response to the number of input side picture elements, allowing to reduce the capacity of the buffer memory 39. Since the number of read samples is constant, the deterioration in the picture quality is eiliminated without losing the pictue information. Further, the dot matrix size forming one picture element is switched at a binary picture recording including the intermediate tone, the number of stages of density change is varied without deteriorating the resolution and the magnification and contraction of picture are attained. |
