PURPOSE:To make it possible to eliminate the limitation in the installation place of an ink tank, in an ink jet printer, by respectively arranging ink tanks communicated with recording heads to separate sides of a carriage so as to interpose said carriage therebetween. CONSTITUTION:A sub-tank 12 communicated with recording heads 7 through ink supply pipes 11 and a main ink tank 21 are provided to the opposed sides of a carriage 6 so as to interpose said carriage 6 therebetween while both tanks are mutually communicated at the lower parts thereof through a flexible communication pipe 22. In this structure, because the using amounts of inks are different every each colors, the liquid levels of each main tanks 21Y-21BK become irregular while an image with faithful color tone is not obtained because of the difference in ink emitting pressure and, therefore, if said liquid levels are aligned to a predetermined liquid level position by an angle 24 as a liquid level control means, ink pressure can be made constant. In addition, because the main ink tank 21 is arranged to a space in the vicinity of the base table 40 of a head cleaning mechanism 70, a space can be availably utilized and the volume of the sub-tank 12 can be made small to eliminate the limitation in the installation place thereof. |
