PURPOSE:To make it possible to record an image with good quality inconspicuous in a joint, in a color ink jet printer, by controlling the intermittent conveyance of paper corresponding to the detection of recording traces recorded by recording element rows. CONSTITUTION:When the recording of an image is started, a carriage is moved to the waiting position set to the lefthand end of a running line in a direction X prior to scanning and, thereafter, a step motor is driven to run the carriage to a right direction while a partial image is recorded in a predetermined image area with a recording width (l) in first main scanning by a multi-recording head 2. In the next step, the carriage is moved to the right direction over a small section while a segment of a line 17-1 is recorded by the specific recording element in the recording head 2 and stopped. Subsequently, when recording paper 12 is sent to a direction Y by first auxiliary scanning and the segment of the line 17-1 is detected by the detecting means 16 on the carriage, the sending thereof is stopped. As mentioned above, main scannings are repeated to record an image to a total predetermined image area. Therefore, the mutual spaces between the partial images with predetermined recording widths are smoothly continued to enable the recording of the image with good quality. |
