PURPOSE:To make it possible to reduce a required space, in an ink jet printer, by replenishing an ink to the sub-tank of a recording element on a carriage from a main tank at a fixed position only at a predetermined time. CONSTITUTION:A carriage 7 is moved toward an ink supply part 23 by the replenishing order of an ink and stopped when a light plate 26 is detected by a sensor 25 while nozzles 237, 242 are respectively pressed to an ink replenishing port 226 and an ink recovery port 228 by springs 239, 244 to be closely contacted therewith and the replenishment of an ink to the ink storage part 221 in a sub- tank from an ink tank 231 at a fixed position is started by driving a pump 232 while the ink in an overflow tank 223 is recovered. As mentioned above, because the replenishment of the ink is carried out only at a predetermined time, there is no such a phenomenon that a head 21 is run with dragging an ink supply tube and an apparatus can be miniaturized in a part corresponding to the moving space thereof while the variation in the running load of the carriage or the supply pressure of the ink is not generated and printing quality can be kept constant. |
