PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a modified cross-section hollow fiber capable of providing a spun silky high-class woven or knitted fabric having excellent lightweight properties, a deep hue and fluff and touch feeling when woven or knitted. SOLUTION: This modified cross-section hollow fiber has protruding parts and fine grooves alternately distributed on the fiber surface and the cross-sectional shape of the protruding parts and fine grooves has a nearly trapezoid shape including a rectangular shape. The protruding parts and the fine grooves are continuous in the fiber longitudinal direction and the number of the protruding parts and dimensions of the protruding parts and the fine grooves satisfy the following (1) to (3): (1) 15<=N<=35 (wherein, N is the number of the protruding parts), (2) 0.3<=W<=1 (μm) (wherein, W is the width of a protruding part), and (3) 1.5W<=H<=3W (μm) (wherein, H is the height of the a protruding part). The modified cross-section fiber has a hollow part having 10-40% hollowness near the central part of the fiber cross section.
