A process for discontinuously producing chipboards, fibreboards or similar boards is described, in which, for the purpose of increasing the cost-effectiveness, before the pressing of non-woven sections to give the respective end product in board form, a pre-pressing operation is carried out in a plurality of directly successive discontinuous substeps, the sum of these substeps corresponding at least essentially to the respectively specified gross board length.
