A vine-cutting device has a hand device (2) with a cutter (14) and a protection and guide device (17), which hand device is suspended by means of a pull cable (9) on a holding arm (6). The holding arm is in turn fastened on a carrying frame (3) on the back of a person, on which in addition a drive unit (4) and a spring pull (5) for the pull cable (9) are situated. By means of the spring pull (5) and the holding arm (6), the hand device can be held in a weight-relieved manner over a relatively large working range, in particular vertical range. By means of the protection and guide device (17), the cutter (14) can be guided along the bracing wires (15) close below or above them. Rapid and extensively fatigue-free working during vine cutting is consequently possible. The horizontally operating cutter (14) for a winter cut can be exchanged for a vertically operating cutter for a summer cut. <IMAGE>
