A microbiological process for the production of alpha -glycerophosphate oxidase in which the enzyme yield is considerably increased by culturing an alpha -glycerophosphate oxidase-producing microorganism of the genus Pediococcus, Streptococcus, Lactobacillus or Leuconostoc in a nutrient medium which contains at least one compound consisting of ascorbic acid, of an alpha -keto acid of the formula <IMAGE> in which R is the radical CH3(CH2)m-, HOOC(CH2)n- or CH2(OH)CH(OH)CH(OH)CH- and m is an integer from 1 to 3, and n is an integer from 0 to 2, or the salt thereof, and isolating the alpha -glycerophosphate oxidase from the resulting culture broth, is indicated.
