In the railway vehicle short coupler the split sleeve halves are linked on one side by an axis-parallel hinge (13) to the coupler length. A locking device on the opposite side has a threaded bolt (14) swivelling on one sleeve half (12) into slots in both halves. A nut (16) on the bolt exerts closure force on the other half (11). A manual lever (18), connected with the nut, is brought into engagement to permit rotary moment transfer to the nut. A device secures the nut in its position appropriate to the couplet state, thus preventing unintentional release.
