The conveying device is used for the loosening, metering and discharging of chips and fibrous and farinaceous substances from a storage silo (1). A tube (2) is arranged in the silo (1) above a discharging worm (3) so as to cover the worm (3) in its longitudinal direction. Clearing springs (5) which project from the tube (2) and are provided with scraper discs (4) are attached on the tube in the direction of rotation of the tube (2). When the covering tube (2) is rotated, the clearing springs (5) engage with the conveyed material which has been introduced above and near the covering tube (2), and loosen it. The loosened material thereby falls onto the worm (3) which is located under the covering tube (2). A level sensor (12) is arranged in the space between the covering tube (2) and the worm (3) to stop rotation of the covering tube (2) when the worm (3) is covered with chips and to continue the rotation as soon as the worm (3) has reduced the layer of chips lying over it to the level set by the level sensor (12). This conveying device has a large output and is very effective, even though it is simple to set up and reliable in operation. <IMAGE>
