PROCESS FOR PREPARING TRIARYLMETHANE COMPOUNDS

A process for preparing triarylmethane compounds, which comprises reacting a benzene or naphthalene compound with a formylating agent in the presence of an acidic catalyst, adding water to the reaction mixture without isolating the produced aromatic aldehyde compound from the reaction mixture to thereby hydrolyze the acid catalyst, and subjecting the aromatic aldehyde compound and an aromatic compound to a condensation reaction in the thus-obtained mixture.
