PURPOSE:To provide a solid wire which forms sound weld beads with good globular transfer particularly in the stage of welding and with less spatters, by increasing the concn. of oxygen in the surface layer part of a soft steel wire rod positively. CONSTITUTION:The concn. of oxygen in the surface layer part of a soft steel wire rod is regulated at 100-1,000ppm and the concn. of average oxygen over the entire part at 70ppm, respectively, whereby a titled solid wire for welding is obtained. The thickness in the surface layer part where the concn. of oxygen is ought to be increased in preferably regulated at <=0.2mm.. A method of controlling the amt. of the residual oxide film formed on the surface of the raw wire by adjusting the removal rate of said oxide film then drawing the wire is used in increasing the concn. of oxygen in the surface layer part. On the other hand, the concn. of oxygen in the inside part is regulated in the production stage of raw material steel or in the casting stage thereof. |
