Atomising system for electrostatic powder coating for atomising fine plastics powder, in which the air stream forwarding the powder particles is fanned out in a known manner to strike an impact body, and which operates with a supplementary air stream, to improve atomisation, which stream emerges from the back side of the impact body turned away from the powder stream and which crosses the powder-air stream. The special feature of the present spray system is that this supplementary air can be temporarily switched off or reduced by 70-90% by a switch directly fitted to the spray gun, and that the applied high voltage is reduced to a substantially lower value simultaneously with the reduction effected by switching off. Switching over effects a better penetration of the powder particles into recesses of the workpiece surface.
