摘要 A method for measuring and detecting objects at a long distance, such as, for example, space vehicles or those objects whose image size is smaller than the smallest displayable pixel is presented. In a case where the image of the object to be detected is smaller than one pixel, detection of an object has been impossible with the previous method. In the method, the object (10) to be detected is irradiated by an electromagnetic pulse, preferably a light pulse, and the reflected pulse is received and analysed by a radiation detector and evaluated. The fact is utilised that the reflecting part-areas of the object (10) are hit at different times by the light pulse depending on their position and correspondingly reflect this light pulse. As a result, transit time differences arise between the pulses reflected from the various part-surfaces of the object (10) in dependence of the geometry of the object (10). The total reflected light pulse is produced by superimposition of the individual pulses displaced with respect to one another in time, which results in a transit-time spectrum. This transit-time spectrum, or also transit-time signature, is only dependent on the geometry, the angle of observation and the degree of reflection of the object (10). <IMAGE>
